Md. health exchange works out glitches, thousands sign up

WASHINGTON – Maryland’s health care exchange is working on the glitches, but still has a long way to go.

The Maryland Health Benefit Exchange says its tech team is making changes, but still hasn’t rolled out an expected update to the system’s software.

Through Thursday, Oct. 17, 34,862 Marylanders have created accounts in the system and 2,393 households have signed up for coverage. About half of those signing up for coverage have done so in the last week.

The exchange promises problems with the website will get better in the next few weeks, reminding anyone shopping around that as long as a plan is selected and payment is made by mid-December, users will be covered Jan. 1, 2014.
