WASHINGTON – Local students are crossing their fingers that short videos they put together will win them a live Katy Perry concert at the school.

The contest, put on by ABC’s “Good Morning America,” asks students to send in their own rendition of Perry’s hit, “Roar.”

Along with featuring a Viking — the school’s mascot — this video from students at Walt Whitman High School in Montgomery County, Md., highlights cancer survivors.

The fight against cancer is also the focal point for a contest submission made by students at Kettle Run High School in Fauquier County, Va.

“Our tiny community has seen more than 10 children in the past few years diagnosed with cancer; it has become a rallying point for us,” says the YouTube description of Kettle Run’s video.

The winning school gets the concert Oct. 25, and it will be broadcast on “Good Morning America.”
