Tips to avoid bike theft

WASHINGTON – In Fairfax County, bicycle thefts are up about 36 percent over last September.

Eighty-six bikes have been stolen in McLean alone.

Police say they’re often taken when garage doors are left open. And thieves make a clean getaway

To prevent your bike from being stolen, use a steel U-lock, install motion sensors on your property, and register your bicycle with the national bike registry – a database that helps police return stolen bikes to their owners.
