WASHINGTON – Federal agents and prosecutors investigating the attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi have filed charges against Ahmed Khattalah.
People briefed on the investigation tell CNN and NBC News that Khattalah is the leader of a Libyan militia that officials believe was involved in the assault.
NBC is reporting that more than one person has been charged.
What the charges are is still not known and it’s not clear if anybody is in custody.
But the investigation of the attack last Sept. 11 that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others continues.
The Justice Department says it has no comment on reports of criminal charges in the probe.
