CANBERRA, Australia (AP) – A strong magnitude 6.9 earthquake has struck off the coast of New Zealand, rattling cities including the capital Wellington.

There were no immediate reports of major damage and no tsunami warning.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake struck Sunday under the Cook Strait 57 kilometers (35 miles) southwest of Wellington. It was 10 kilometers (6 miles) underground.
