LED streetlights may be too bright an idea

WASHINGTON – The LED streetlights in parts of Arlington have been touted as state-of-the-art illumination, reducing costs and helping the environment. But some residents say they’re too harsh and too bright for neighborhoods.

“They have a point,” says County Board chairman Walter Tejada.

Speaking at this weekend’s board meeting, Tejada said “Residents say they’re able to read with (the) lights in their house totally out and the shades down.”

He says that county leaders will attend a demonstration next month where they can see different light settings in one neighborhood.
