Work to begin again on troubled Silver Spring Transit Center

WASHINGTON – The Silver Spring Transit Center, which failed safety tests and has come in over budget while still under construction, will see work again soon.

David Dise, director of the Montgomery County Department of General Services, says contractor Foulger-Pratt will receive notice to begin work again after permits were granted allowing them to do so earlier this week.

Concerns about cracks in the concrete and a dispute over the responsibility for structural problems have plagued the already-stalled project, but Dise says he expects on-site repair work now should go on without interruption.

It’s still not clear exactly when the project will be finished.
