Metro train heads down wrong line

WASHINGTON – A Metro train whose signs labeled it as running on the Orange Line headed down the Blue Line on Wednesday.

A train left the Rosslyn station on Wednesday morning with signs indicating it was on the Orange Line, but when it headed toward the Arlington Cemetery station, the operator realized the mistake. The train stopped at the cemetery station; the passengers got off and transferred back to Rosslyn to catch the Orange Line.

Metro says that each train’s operator enters a destination code, which determines how switches are thrown. The train’s signage is done separately.

Nobody was injured or at risk, Metro says, since the train was headed in the right direction. They say they’ll follow up with the operator.
