Golf fans stuff care packages for troops overseas

WASHINGTON – Fans were streaming into the Congressional Country Club, in Bethesda, for the AT&T National golf tournament, but before they saw a stroke, many of them were stopping to put together care packages for service members.

Steve Ibarra ran the care-package tent where fans filled bags for troops overseas, and he says that the packages included hygiene items, snacks, periodicals and other things “that make it a little more comfortable for our troops.”

He says that the fans will pack up a total of 7,500 care packages for troops in Afghanistan, and that they’ll be there by the second week of July.
