Input sought on Metro crash memorial plans

WASHINGTON – It was four years ago last week that two Metrorail trains slammed into each other on the Red Line.

Nine people were killed, 80 were injured and 12 children were left orphaned. Now, D.C. and the National Park Service are proposing a memorial to honor the victims and celebrate the heroism of the first responders.

Two sites in northeast D.C. are under consideration, and the Park Service and the District want to know what area residents think. The plans can be viewed here.

Voters have until July 26 to let their preferences be known or to vote for no memorial at all.
