Prince George’s County to name new schools chief

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker is set to announce a new public schools CEO.

Baker will introduce Anne Arundel County Public Schools superintendent Kevin Maxwell at a news conference on Friday. The event will take place at Northwestern High School, where Maxwell once was the principal. Maxwell had worked for the Prince George’s public schools for 22 years.

Prince George’s County has the second-largest school district in Maryland.

The Arundel schools’ website says Maxwell submitted his resignation on Thursday to accept the Prince George’s position. He has led the Arundel schools since 2006.

Maxwell succeeds William Hite Jr., who left in September to take the top job in Philadelphia.

The Anne Arundel County school board will hold an emergency, closed session on Saturday to discuss naming an interim superintendent.
