Maryland commuters face rising toll prices

WASHINGTON — Driving to the beach? Get ready to pay more.

Starting July 1, the current $4 charge on the Bay Bridge is going up to $6.

In Baltimore, using the Francis Key Bridge, the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel and the Fort McHenry Tunnel will now cost you $4.

E-ZPass customers get a 10 percent discount. Regular commuters get a 65 percent discount off toll-based rates.

The Maryland Transportation Authority expects to collect $90 million in additional tolls the first full year. The money will go toward rehabilitating aging bridges, tunnels and highways. The bump in toll collections also will be used to add highway capacity to the Baltimore and Washington regions.
