EARLIER – Thursday – 3/18/2013 3:00 p.m.

WASHINGTON – A Gaithersburg woman and her 2-week-old daughter are missing and police are asking for help in finding them.

Alyona Mayo, 20, was last seen at home with her baby, Syrena, in the 17100 block of Queen Victoria Court. She left around 11 p.m. Wednesday and has not been heard from since, according to a Montgomery County Police news release.

Her family is worried because Mayo functions at the level of an 11-year-old. Police say they do not suspect foul play, the release says.

She is described as blonde, standing 5-foot-6-inches tall and 140 pounds. She has blue eyes and long hair, but her family notes it is now shorter than it was in the photo above.

Anyone with information about Alyona Mayo and/or her daughter’s whereabouts is asked to call the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
