Aisle or window? Which seats are the safest?

WASHINGTON – The most popular seats on the plane could save your life.

A British Airways study says that in a standard Boeing 747 plane, economy-class fliers prefer seats in the back and next to a window. The four pairs of seats in the rear of the plane are the most popular because they allow couples to occupy the entire row.

The Daily Telegraph reports that even though the chances of dying from a plane crash are extremely small, seats near the back of the plane, next to an emergency exit and window, are the safest. Researchers add that wearing a seat belt is also important.

The study also reveals that more than half of all fliers prefer the right side of the plane and first-class fliers favor the seats up front.
