WASHINGTON – While not everyone got blasted with the white stuff, the clock is ticking to shovel away any snow, slush or ice.

In fact, the clock may have already stopped.

D.C. actually has a law on the books requiring property owners to clear snow and ice from sidewalks and steps within the first “eight daylight hours” after the snow stops falling.

However, D.C.’s government web page, it says residents and business owners should clear the snow 24 hours after the storm ends.

Montgomery County and Arlington County also give residents 24 hours after a storm to get rid of the snow and ice. Prince George’s County has a 48-hour window.

In Fairfax County, there’s no law on the books, but the county asks residents to clear sidewalks for their own safety and the safety of others.
