Convictions overturned for man serving time for beating, robbing elderly woman

WASHINGTON – The man convicted of beating and robbing an elderly woman more than six years ago could be getting out of prison after his convictions were overturned.

The beating of the 83-year-old street vendor near the Foggy Bottom Metro was caught on videotape.

James Dorsey confessed but later argued that confession came after he had asked for a lawyer. The D.C. Court of Appeals agreed.

A spokesperson for the U.S. attorney tells WTOP they have not decided whether to retry the case.
