Predicted baby name trends for 2013

WASHINGTON – Would you name your baby Persephone or Thor?

Ancient names inspired by gods and goddesses are going to be popular among expecting parents this year, according to nameberry.com.

Nameberry experts predict some of the baby naming trends this year:

1) Names inspired by Superstorm Sandy.

2) Names diverged from “Lionine” such as Leopold, Leo and Leona.

3) Calling a child by his or her middle name instead of first name.

4) Inserting a baby’s place of birth into his or her name.

5) Mid-century nicknames such as Hank or Hal.

6) Names from Scandinavia such as Astrid, Magnus, and yes, Siri.

7) Names with a double “L,” such as Lily, Lila and Lola.

8) Wildflower names such as Rose and Poppy.

9) Seasonal names such as Winter, Snow and Frost.
