D.C. cabs to charge extra $15 during Sandy

WASHINGTON – The D.C. Taxicab Commission has announced an emergency fare period starting at noon on Monday because of Hurricane Sandy.

All taxi trips that start in D.C. will add $15 on top of the regular metered fare. That extra cost will automatically expire after 24 hours, but could be called off early or extended for an additional fixed period.

Drivers are required to tell passengers about the additional charge when the passenger enters the vehicle.
