WASHINGTON – Golfers may run into squirrels, deer and annoying geese when playing a round, and a course in California has now added sharks to the list.

On Monday, a San Juan Capistrano golf course employee found a 2-foot-long shark , still alive, at the 12th tee box. The employee picked up the shark that was bleeding and punctured with wounds and drove it back to the clubhouse, The Capistrano Dispatch reports.

A cart attendant then put the shark in a bucket of water with some salt for a short period of time before driving the shark to Baby Beach in Dana Point, where he let it go in the ocean.

Director of Club Operations Melissa McCormack tells the Dispatch she thinks a bird dropped the shark, which she speculates is a leopard shark, on the course.

“It was just wriggling around,” McCormack says. “Honestly, this is the weirdest thing that’s happened here.”
