WASHINGTON – Low-slung pants are meeting resistance where you might not suspect.

Many high school students at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Md. say they think saggy pants that show a little too much underwear is a gross fashion statement.

The Take Charge Program, a nonprofit based in Forestville, Md., has decided to help students pull up their pants by collecting and distributing belts at various locations in Prince George’s County like Northwestern High. They are calling the initiative the “Pull ‘Em Up” campaign.

“This campaign is to bring awareness to our young men who display their underwear while their pants are sagging,” the group’s website states.

The “Pull ‘Em Up” campaign will be accepting belt donations until Nov. 1.

Mother Cherri Blackwell, whose kids attend Northwestern High School, says she agrees with the campaign’s message of promoting appropriate attire. She confronts anyone she sees with their pants down low.

“I tell them to pull your pants up. Like, why would you do that?” she says. “No one wants to see your dirty drawers.”
