Roads Closed, Power Out Around Cherrydale

Update at 11:10 a.m. — The reported number of Dominion customers without power is down to 1,279.

A pair of transformers have blown, a utility pole has fallen and wires are down in the area of Lee Highway and N. Quincy Street in Cherrydale, according to Arlington County Police.

So far there’s no word on what caused the transformers to blow and the pole to fall, but there are more than 2,200 Dominion customers in Cherrydale, Ballston and elsewhere are without power as a result of the incident.

Traffic signals are dark at at least five busy intersections, including:

  • Lee Highway and Quincy Street
  • Washington Blvd and Quincy Street
  • Fairfax Drive and Monroe Street
  • Fairfax Drive and Nelson Street
  • Old Dominion Drive and Lee Highway

Quincy Street is currently closed between 20th Street and Lee Highway, police said. Dominion Power is en route to the scene.
