Boy, 17, dies in St. Mary’s County car accident

WASHINGTON – A 17-year-old boy died Saturday night after losing control of his vehicle in St. Mary’s County.

Tyler Brett Mattingly of Lexington Park was traveling on northbound Point Lookout Road near Park Hall Road when he lost control of his 1999 Ford Crown Victoria just before 8:30 p.m. His car crossed the center line and into the path of a 2007 Toyota Corolla.

Mattingly was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passengers of the other vehicle, Lindsay Marie Lague, 20, and Anthony Dillon, 21, both of Lexington Park, were flown to Prince George’s County Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The wet road and speed are considered to factors in the accident. St. Mary’s County Sheriffs Office asks anyone who may have seen the accident to contact Corporal Brian Connelly at (301) 475-4200, Ext. 9010.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, where Mattingly interned, issued the following statement:

“Tyler Mattingly was a valued member of the St. Mary’s County Sheriffs Office as a Student Intern. He volunteered countless hours assisting the Sheriffs Office.”
