WASHINGTON – A 93-year-old man was assaulted by a man police say was impersonating an officer in Virginia on Wednesday.

The victim was getting out of his car on Leesburg Pike shortly before 10 a.m. when Fairfax County police say Rudolph Curtis, 59, approached him, showed some kind of credentials and said he was a police officer.

Curtis then demanded the victim’s driver’s license, hit him several times and fled in a Ford Mustand with his wallet.

The victim was treated on the scene for minor injuries.

Curtis, of Arlington, was arrested and charged with robbery, malacious wounding and impersonating law enforcement.

Police say Curtis was also involved with two other similar incidents. On June 9, an 85-year-old man was robbed, and on July 24, an 81-year-old man was robbed. Neither were injured.
