Save money: Sunday last day to shop tax-free in Va.

WASHINGTON – Families looking to stock up on school supplies and school clothes have one last day to buy items tax-free in Virginia.

Sunday is the last day for the state’s sales tax holiday, with school supplies that cost $20 or less qualifying for the offer.

Some clothes and shoes also won’t be taxed, provided they cost $100 or less per item.

Jewelry, purses, briefcases and a host of other items will not get the exemption.

Virginia spells out all of the allowances and restrictions on its August Sales Tax Holiday page.

Maryland goes tax-free the week of Aug. 12 to Aug. 18.

Items that cost more than $100 will be taxed in Maryland. Maryland lists all of the details of its tax-free week on its Shop Maryland page.

D.C. no longer offers tax-free shopping days.
