NB I-270 no longer awash in beer

HYATTSTOWN, Md. – Northbound Interstate 270 near Hyattstown has reopened more than six hours after a truck hauling Budweiser overturned early Thursday.

The truck hauling more than 77,000 pounds of Budweiser beer overturned at Md. 109 in Montgomery County shortly after 4 a.m.

Maryland State Police said the tractor-trailer apparently hit some debris and then struck a guardrail before overturning.

For about 40 minutes, the northbound lanes were completely closed. After that, traffic squeezed by on the right shoulder.

The cleanup took all morning after beer cans spilled on the interstate and the median. Some of the beer also spilled on the pavement.

Police said a hazardous materials team also had to be called in because of a fuel tank rupture.
