WASHINGTON – Metro’s leader is expected to give an update on a recent computer meltdown that literally froze some trains in place.

General Manager Richard Sarles will talk about the two separate computer crashes during a board meeting Thursday morning.

That incidents happened July 14 and July 15.

Metro tracked the issue back to a failed computer module. At the time of the disruption Metro said an information management system failed. That system allows controllers in Metro’s Rail Operations Control Center to see where trains are on a dynamic map and to remotely control switches.

Metro says other safety systems that make sure trains are properly spaced apart did not fail during the incident.
