WASHINGTON – Storms were in the forecast early Thursday morning with the National Weather Service issuing a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Prince William, Fauquier and Stafford counties until 3:15 a.m.

A Warning had also been issued late Wednesday night affecting Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Fauquier counties. That storm knocked out power to about 1,000 NOVEC customers.

Thursday was forecast to be hot and humid with daytime highs in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees. Heat indexes may climb to near 105 degrees. As the atmosphere remains unstable, showers and thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon hours, according to the National Weather Service.

Above average temperatures will continue into the upcoming weekend.

Officials are expecting excessive heat and/or humidity that have the potential to cause heat-related illnesses. Advisories are issued when the forecast shows a high chance of reaching a heat index of 105 degrees or higher.
