Fares increase on Metro starting Sunday

WASHINGTON – Get ready to pay more on Metro. Fares go up on Sunday.

The 5 percent increase means the cost will be at least 10 cents more during the off-peak hours and 15 cents more during peak hours.

It will cost between $1.70 and $3.50 to ride Metro in the off-peak hours and $2.10 to $5.75 during the peak hours.

Metro will eliminate the 20-cent peak-of-the-peak surcharge, but will charge a $1 surcharge for trips on paper fare cards.

Metro’s website has a complete look at the changes.

Meanwhile, Montgomery County Ride-On and the Fairfax Connector will raise rates on Sunday.

Arlington ART and Prince George’s County’s “The Bus” will not charge more.
