Calling all cellphone memories

WASHINGTON – A huge change in technology was made on this day in 1973.

Martin Cooper, a Motorola executive and researcher, made the first analog mobile phone call. But his phone was quite a bit different from those that people use today.

It weighed 2.5 pounds and looked a like a brick. It also took 10 hours to charge, which provided for 30 minutes of talk time.

Do you remember the first days of the cellphone? How big and heavy was the first phone you owned? Share your thoughts in the comments to this story, on Twitter using #WTOPcellphone or on our Facebook page.
