Arrest made in UMd. burglary, attempted sexual assault

WASHINGTON – A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an early morning burglary and attempted sexual assault at the University of Maryland College Park.

Authorities say Oluwafemi T. Charles of Silver Spring broke into an 18-year-old’s residence at Cumberland Hall Feb. 26 around 3:50 a.m. and touched her thigh, startling the sleeping student. Moments later, the girl’s roommate opened the door and confronted the suspect, who said he was there on accident and quickly left.

The roommates noticed a laptop had been taken.

Other students in the residence said they heard someone trying to turn their door knobs. One female said she saw two suspicious males standing outside her door.

Charles is charged with burglary, theft, sexual offence and second-degree assault.
