WASHINGTON – Two Maryland lawmakers are pushing legislation that would require every person riding in a car to wear a seat belt.

While all drivers in the area are required to buckle up, Virginia and Maryland do not currently require passengers in the back seat to wear seat belts. D.C. does require all passengers to buckle up.

Maryland delegates Sam Arora, D-Montgomery County, and C.T. Wilson, D-Charles County, say their bill would save 30 lives every year in Maryland, prevent hundreds of injuries and raise more than $30 million in revenue in the coming years.
