20-year-old D.C. cold case solved with murder charge

WASHINGTON – A D.C. cold case 20 years old was officially solved on Monday when a man was returned to the District and charged with felony murder.

Police say Lamont DeShawn Terry, 37, of Columbia, South Carolina, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals in January for the killing of 27-year-old Chet Hunter Matthews in 1992.

Matthews was killed on May 25, 1992, on the 1100 block of Ohio Drive in Northwest. Police say they responded to a call about a shooting in the area when they found Matthews suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital and died the next day.

Terry was returned to D.C. on Feb. 13 and charged with the murder.
