We have come to accept midday Metro delays as the norm, but some weeks are worse than others when it comes to single-tracking. We’ve also had more than our share of Metro woes in the last few weeks, including cracked rails and long-term entrance closures.
This week, it’s all scheduled single-tracking that will hold you up during your daytime (and late evening) travels. Every line is affected, excluding the Yellow Line. Here’s what you need to know from Metro:
Red Line
- Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, trains will single-track between Friendship Heights and Medical Center for rail renewal. Expect minor delays (up to 10 minutes).
- Monday through Thursday evenings, trains will single-track between Van Ness and Medical Center for NTSB-recommended track circuit replacement, and between New York Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue for DDOT bridge work. The work will begin at 10 p.m. on Monday evening, and at 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Once work begins, Red Line trains will depart endpoint terminals every 30-35 minutes. Customers should allow 20-25 minutes of additional travel time.
Orange Line
- Through Thursday, beginning at 10 p.m. each night, trains will single-track between Foggy Bottom and Ballston for prep work associated with an upcoming NTSB-recommended switch replacement project. Trains will also single-track between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory for station rehabilitation and track work. After 10 p.m., trains will operate every 30-35 minutes. Customers should allow 15-20 minutes of additional travel time. Customers traveling between D.C. and stations in Arlington may consider Metrobus route 38B (Farragut Square-Ballston).
Blue Line
- Through Thursday, beginning at 10 p.m. each night, trains will single-track between Foggy Bottom and Arlington Cemetery for prep work associated with an upcoming NTSB-recommended switch replacement project. Trains will also single-track between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory for station rehabilitation and track work. After 10 p.m., trains will operate every 30-35 minutes. Customers should allow 15-20 minutes of additional travel time.
Green Line
- Through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, trains will single-track between Southern Avenue and Naylor Road for rail and fastener renewal. Customers should allow about 10 minutes of additional travel time.
