Work on I-66, I-395, Route 7 and Valentine’s Day fun

Weekend Wakeup Call- Friday Feb. 10 to Sunday Feb. 12

This weekend we’ll see tree trimming and cleaning operations on Interstate 395 Friday and Saturday, and some lane closures on I-66 Saturday and Sunday nights. The big Beltway work this weekend simply involves ramp closures. And of course we have Valentine’s Day festivities abound, with The Cupids Undie Run on Saturday and The Valentine’s Day 5K on Sunday. Have a great pre-Valentine’s weekend!

I-395 Tree trimming and cleaning

There will be mobile tree trimming and ditch cleaning crews out on both 395 northbound and southbound on Friday and Saturday between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures.

I-66 westbound night closures

On Sunday night starting around 9:30 p.m., I-66 westbound between the Dulles Connector Road and the Beltway, the right lane will be blocked with total temporary closures starting around midnight and lasting no longer than 30 minutes at a time.

Route 7 ramp from Beltway closures

The beltway Inner loop ramp to Route 7 eastbound and westbound will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. for repair work.

Cupid’s Undie Run

The Cupid’s Undie Run is a 1.5 mile run to raise money  for The Children’s Tumor Foundation. Festivities start at noon on February 11, 2012 in six cities nationwide (DC, NYC, Atlanta, Seattle, Denver and Cincinnati), then they strip down for the Undie Run at 2pm. Cupid’s Undie Run DC takes runners on a 1.1 mile jog past the US Capitol Building.  Pre- and post-run festivities are held at the historic Pour House Bar & Grill and the neighboring Capitol Lounge.

Frederick Douglass Birthday Celebration

The Frederick Douglass birthday celebration is set for Saturday, February 11 this year. The location is 1411 W st SE, Washington DC 20020. With activities, history, and live Douglass speeches, it’s billed as a party for all generations.

DC International Wine and Food Festival

The Festival is a week long celebration of wine, cuisine and culture that culminates in a two day tasting of food and wines. Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday Feb. 11 and 12 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ronald Regan Building and International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW.

Valentines Day 5K

The race takes place in Arlington on Sunday Feb. 12th. South Joyce Street will be closed between South 15th Street and Army Navy Drive, and Army Navy Drive closes between South Joyce Street and South 25th Street will be closed from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Metro track work for weekend of Feb. 10-12

Buses will replace trains between East Falls Church & West Falls Church; Yellow line trains operate via the Blue Line between Huntington & Stadium -Armory.

 Metro will continue efforts to rebuild the rail system over the weekend of February 10-12. The work will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue through system closing on Sunday.

Orange Line

  • Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday and continuing through system closing on Sunday, shuttle buses will replace Orange Line trains between East Falls Church and West Falls Church to allow for signal work associated with the Dulles rail project.
  • Orange Line trains will operate in two segments: between Vienna and West Falls Church every 20 minutes, and between East Falls Church and New Carrollton at normal weekend service levels.
  • Customers traveling through the work zone should allow 20-30 minutes of additional travel time.
  • Information regarding last train times will be posted here later this week.

Blue Line

  • No scheduled work. Trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule.

Red Line

  • Red Line trains will single track between Van Ness and Friendship Heights to allow for rail fastener renewal, leak repairs and track bed cleaning, and between New York Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue for DDOT bridge work.
  • Trains will depart Shady Grove and Glenmont every 15 minutes throughout the weekend.
  • On Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., additional trains operate between Van Ness and New York Avenue every 15 minutes, resulting in service every 7-8 minutes through Downtown.
  • Customers traveling through the work zone should allow 10-15 minutes of additional travel time.

Green Line

  • Green Line trains will single track between Naylor Road and Branch Avenue to allow for rail and fastener renewal, and between L’Enfant Plaza and Mt. Vernon Square for work to improve cell phone coverage.
  • Throughout the weekend, Green Line trains will operate every 18 minutes between Greenbelt and Branch Avenue. Most trips will operate with 8-car trains.

Yellow Line

Due to the work to improved cell phone coverage between L’Enfant Plaza and Mt. Vernon Square:

  • On Friday evening, after 10 p.m., Yellow Line trains will operate every 26 minutes between Fort Totten and Huntington. Customers should allow 15-20 minutes of additional travel time.
  • On Saturday and Sunday, all Yellow Line trains will operate via the Blue Line between Huntington and Stadium-Armory on a regular weekend schedule. Customers should allow 15 minutes of additional travel time between L’Enfant Plaza and Pentagon stations. At L’Enfant Plaza, all Yellow Line trains will depart from the Lower Level.
