Synetic Family Theater moves to Crystal City

Synetic Theater will move its Family Theater performances from Shirlington to Crystal City, the company announced Wednesday.

The move means that both of Synetic’s theater companies will operate out of the same space at 1800 S. Bell St., a facility owned by Vornado/Charles E. Smith in partnership with the Crystal City Business Improvement District. Synetic moved its larger theater operations there in 2010. The company’s smaller, 80-seat theater in the Village of Shirlington will close as a result of the consolidation, but its drama, art classes and camps will remain at that location.

New shows at the Crystal City venue begin in February.

Synetic is known for its movement-based shows and silent Shakespeare productions. The family theater operations were once known as Classika Theatre. The adult theater arm of Synetic launched a touring company last year.
