WASHINGTON – A new bill could soon make it easier for police to pull you over for texting while driving in Virginia.

A Senate Transportation committee approved approved legislation this week that would allow police to pull over drivers who are texting.

Currently police can only pull you over for texting if you commit another violation.

The legislation, Senate Bill 219, sponsored by Sen. George Barker, D – Fairfax, now heads to the full Senate, where lawmakers say it could actually pass.

Similar bills have previously died in the House Public Safety Committee.

Texting while driving is a primary offense in both Maryland and D.C.
