‘A fox took my keys’ – and other excuses for being late to work

WASHINGTON – Are you running a bit late to work this morning? Have you cooked up a good excuse?

CareerBuilder.com has conducted its annual survey of “late to work” excuses. And according to UPI, one in six Americans will be telling their boss why they were late to work.

Sixteen percent of all workers are late to work at least once a week, and 27 percent are late once a month or more.

There’s the tried and true methods — 31 percent blame it on traffic, 18 percent on a lack of sleep and 11 percent on bad weather.

But the survey also found some really bizarre excuses:

  • My cat had the hiccups.
  • A fox stole my car keys.
  • Sorry I’m late, I had a job interview with another firm.
