Fast food could be damaging your brain

WASHINGTON – You know fast food isn’t the greatest on your waistline, but it could be having a negative impact on your brain.

Rodents in a new study in the Journal of Clinical Investigation were given a diet of fatty foods. Some experienced damage to the hypothalamus region of the brain, which produces hormones that control things like hunger and thirst.

The study’s lead doctor says the new findings seem to confirm that when we have unhealthy diets, we’re not in control as much as we think we are. It could explain why it’s so hard to lose weight and keep it off.

Researchers say they need to determine if the same scarring can be applied to human brains.
