New York Ave. reopens

WASHINGTON – Morning commuters found their drive into the District along New York Avenue complicated Tuesday.

The busy commuter route closed during part of the morning commute after an accident involving a tractor trailer and a sport utility vehicle.

The crash occurred on the inbound lanes between Montana Avenue and the Brentwood overpass.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Lon Walls tells WTOP rescue workers extricated the driver of the SUV. The driver has life-threatening injuries. The tractor trailer driver was not injured.

All lanes reopened just after 8 a.m.
